The UN envoy, “Abdullah Batili”, said that the meeting of the 5 + 5 Joint Military Committee in Cairo throughout the day, Tuesday and tomorrow, Wednesday, aims to activate the communication committees agreed upon during the meetings in Cairo in November 2021, in the context of preparation for the removal of foreign fighters and mercenaries.

This came in a speech by “Batili” during the committee’s meeting today, Tuesday, in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, to discuss the plan to remove mercenaries and foreign forces from the country, in the presence of representatives of Libya’s neighboring countries (Sudan, Chad and Niger).

The UN envoy stressed that the security track is an important pillar for paving the way for establishing a favorable political and economic environment, noting that the meeting of the Military Committee in Sirte, which was held on January 15 and 16, made progress, including the nomination of members of the Libyan Liaison Committee; to enable them to work with their counterparts from Sudan, Chad and Niger.

He revealed that he held a “fruitful” meeting with the ambassadors of Sudan, Niger and Chad last week, where they expressed their readiness and desire to support the United Nations Support Mission in Libya and the Libyan actors to find permanent solutions to the challenges raised and to cooperate with the Libyans.

At the end of his speech, the UN envoy, “Abdullah Batili,” expressed his hope that these joint military committee meetings would be able to move forward in activating the communication committees so that coordination takes place to the fullest.
