The President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Bafel Jalal Talabani, discussed with a high-level delegation from the federal government headed by Qassem Al-Araji, National Security Adviser, with the membership of Hamid Al-Shatri, Head of the National Security Agency, Abdul-Wahhab Al-Saadi, Head of the Anti-Terrorism Service in Iraq, and Lieutenant General Qais Al-Muhammadawi, Deputy Commander of Joint Operations, the latest security developments and the attack on Sulaymaniyah International Airport.

It was emphasized – according to a statement by Talabani’s office – on protecting the sovereignty of the homeland and unifying efforts in order to restore stability in the country and not to repeat similar events.

Talabani thanked Prime Minister Muhammad al-Sudani, the guest delegation, and the Iraqi and Kurdish parties and leaders, who had a response to this dangerous development, calling for the outcome of the investigations of the commission in charge to clarify the truth of the incident and the reasons behind it to public opinion.

Regarding shared responsibilities and national tasks to protect the people and the homeland, Bafel said: Our fate is linked to our unity and harmony, and people should not be allowed to be guides to foreigners and endanger our national security.

He added: The Sulaymaniyah airport incident is unacceptable, and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan pays the price of its national and patriotic positions. We were waiting for the unity of the discourse of the Kurds and the political parties to achieve higher interests, and we never imagined that the internal security services would be implementing the agendas of foreigners.

For his part, Al-Araji praised the security and stability in Sulaymaniyah, saying: We came to Sulaymaniyah, that city known for the great heart of President Mam Jalal, and we were pleased that the conditions were safe and the accident did not affect the lives of citizens.
