Tripoli: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssef, described the passing of the Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army, Lieutenant General Mohammed Al-Haddad, and his companions as "a great loss not only for Libya, but for the entire region."
According to Libyan News Agency, the African Union issued a statement on Thursday in which Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssef expressed "deep sorrow and sadness" over the tragic accident that claimed the life of Lieutenant General Mohammed Al-Haddad and four of his accompanying officers. The incident occurred while they were returning from an official trip to Ankara.
The statement conveyed Ali Youssef's sincere condolences to the Libyan authorities, the Libyan people, and the families of all the victims involved in this national tragedy. He expressed his full solidarity with the Libyan Armed Forces in the wake of this significant loss.
Furthermore, the Chairperson commended the Libyan authorities for their continuous efforts to promote peace, stability, and security in Libya and the broader region.
