Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani stressed the need for a clear American position on the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.
The media office of Al-Sudani stated in a statement: “Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani received today, Tuesday, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, on the sidelines of his participation in the Emergency Humanitarian Response Conference in Gaza, hosted by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
The meeting witnessed a review of bilateral relations and the results of Al-Sudani’s recent visit to the United States, the overall situation in the region and the repercussions of the ongoing aggression on Gaza.
Al-Sudani renewed Iraq’s support for any initiative aimed at a ceasefire and expediting the opening of the door to the entry of aid to the afflicted Palestinian people in Gaza.
He stressed the need for a clear American position on the aggression of the Netanyahu government, indicating the weakness of the international position in general towards respondi
ng to the ongoing tragedy with the continuation of the aggression, as the number of victims and the extent of the destruction cannot be ignored, with the continuation of aggressive threats towards Lebanon, which threatens to expand the conflict in the region.
The Prime Minister also explained the dangers of the continuation of the aggression in Gaza and the threat it poses to regional and international stability, and that it will be a reason for extremist activity in the region to be taken as a new pretext, and that the international community must assume its responsibilities in the face of the genocide scene that The occupation authorities have committed crimes that have led to the displacement of 80% of the population of the Strip, who have become homeless, without medical, humanitarian or service resources, and in the worst catastrophic conditions imaginable.
For his part, Blinken expressed the US administration’s appreciation for Iraq’s steps in supporting permanent stability in the region, and providin
g assistance that alleviates the difficult humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip, stressing the importance of working to cease fire. He also conveyed to Al-Sudani President Joe Biden’s appreciation for the support provided by Iraq and its role in regional and international peace efforts.
