Seville: President of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Al-Menfi, delivered Libya’s address at the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development in Seville, Spain. Al-Menfi urged the international community to assist Libya in implementing structural reforms and initiating sustainable development projects.
According to Libyan News Agency, during his speech at the conference’s opening session, which was attended by UN Secretary-General António Guterres and several heads of state and representatives of international and regional organizations, Al-Menfi highlighted Libya’s need for effective international partnerships. Despite its vast natural resources, sovereign wealth fund, and strategic location, Libya requires support to overcome its crisis and achieve political stability.
Al-Menfi emphasized the importance of directing investments towards sustainable projects in sectors such as education, healthcare, renewable energy, and economic diversification. He underscored that Libya is at a pivotal
juncture, grappling with significant challenges, including political, economic, and security issues, as well as the devastating impact of Hurricane Daniel on Derna and surrounding areas.
Al-Menfi expressed optimism that the “Seville Commitment” could serve as a catalyst for establishing a more equitable global financial system. He stressed the need for a system that addresses the demands of developing countries, reduces debt burdens, and promotes security, development, and stability in Libya, Africa, and globally.
