Nairobi: African leaders held a virtual meeting via Zoom on Monday to discuss climate change adaptation, with the Head of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, participating at the invitation of the President of Kenya. The Kenyan President currently serves as the Chair of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC).

According to Libyan News Agency, this meeting occurs amidst escalating climate change impacts, ongoing geopolitical instability, and limited progress from last year’s COP30 conference in Bel©m, Brazil. The meeting’s objectives include examining climate change prospects in light of increasing development needs and constraints on climate finance, while also exploring high-impact opportunities to support resilient growth.

The discussion aimed to build upon the COP30 climate action agenda, which was the renewed framework for accelerating action agreed upon in Bel©m. Additionally, leaders sought to secure funding commitments for the Accelerating Adaptation Program in Africa (AAAP 2.0), which was launched on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2025.
