Tripoli: The Head of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, met today with a delegation of notables, elders, elites, civil society representatives, and leaders from Libya's eastern, western, and southern regions at the Council's headquarters in Tripoli.
According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting addressed the latest political, economic, and security developments in the country. Discussions focused on advancing the political process, ending transitional phases, and creating conditions for a stable transition through comprehensive presidential and parliamentary elections, involving all Libyans without exclusion under a unified civil authority.
During the meeting, Al-Menfi emphasized the Presidential Council's commitment to ending transitional phases and preventing them from becoming a permanent political solution. He expressed readiness to support any realistic settlement that would shorten the lifespan of transitional institutions, leading to elections that renew political legitimacy and establish stability. He rejected arrangements that would prolong the transitional period or perpetuate political and institutional division.
The Head of the Council affirmed that overcoming the current crisis requires national will, political consensus, and unified, legitimate institutions reflecting the will of the Libyan people. The delegation rejected political arrangements lacking constitutional and legal grounding or marginalizing any party. It emphasized the importance of genuine national ownership of the political process, free from external interference, according to the Media Office.
The delegation expressed full support for the Presidential Council's efforts to combat corruption and advance a political settlement. Such a settlement aims to break the current deadlock, conclude transitional phases, and pave the way for elections based on a clear constitutional and legal framework ensuring equal opportunities for all Libyans in determining their future.
The meeting also reviewed the living conditions of citizens amidst economic pressures, rising prices, and deteriorating services, including frequent power outages and fuel shortages. These challenges highlight the urgent need for measures to address living conditions and alleviate public burdens.
