Tripoli: The Head of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in New York to discuss the latest political developments in Libya, along with the enhancement of bilateral relations and cooperation across multiple fields.
According to Libyan News Agency, both leaders stressed the importance of progressing the political process to end division and transitional phases in Libya. They highlighted the need to create conditions conducive to holding comprehensive presidential and parliamentary elections, aiming to restore legitimacy through the popular will. This would involve unifying state institutions and achieving lasting stability.
The meeting emphasized that the political process should be led and owned by Libyans, free from any external interference or dictates. The goal is to preserve Libya's sovereignty, unity, and independent national decision-making, while ensuring inclusive participation without exclusion or marginalization.
Furthermore, both sides reaffirmed the importance of ongoing coordination and consultation. They also discussed strengthening cooperative and partnership relations between Libya and Turkey, which would benefit the mutual interests of the two friendly nations.
