Tripoli: Al-Lafi expressed a strong commitment to collaborate with the UN mission to ensure the success of upcoming elections and build stability in Libya. Deputy member of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, reaffirmed that the council is steadfast in its duties during this critical phase, focusing on maintaining Libyan sovereignty, institutional unity, and renewing legitimacy through free and transparent elections, thereby restoring the Libyan people’s right to self-determination.
According to Libyan News Agency, Al-Lafi made these remarks in response to a briefing by Hanna Tetteh, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, to the Security Council on Libya’s latest developments. Al-Lafi appreciated Tetteh’s efforts in aiding Libyans to overcome the political deadlock and expressed his willingness for close cooperation with the UN mission to ensure the proposed roadmap leads to stability, rather than further obstacles.
Al-Lafi highlighted that international disagreements should not overshadow the fact that a purely Libyan solution is essential, and external support should align with the national will to be effective. He emphasized the Presidential Council’s role in fostering genuine national partnerships, turning international support into a stabilizing force rather than a source of conflict.
He concluded by stressing Libya’s current critical juncture and the council’s determination to collaborate with national and international partners to organize elections grounded in broad national consensus. This effort aims to rebuild legitimacy, consolidate peace, and ensure a secure, stable future. Al-Lafi also urged national partners and political leaders to unite in formulating a comprehensive national project to resolve the crisis, unify institutions, and initiate a genuine political process that reinstates state sovereignty and empowers Libyans to reclaim their decision-making power through comprehensive dialogue rooted in trust and national interest.
