Tripoli: Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, welcomed a high-level delegation from the Russian Foreign Ministry, led by Alexander Kinshchak, the Middle East and North Africa Affairs Officer, in Tripoli on Monday. The discussions focused on supporting Libya’s political process and strengthening bilateral relations.
According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting addressed recent developments in Libya’s political landscape, emphasizing the need for international and regional efforts to promote peace and organize comprehensive national elections. These steps are seen as crucial for ensuring lasting stability in the country.
Al-Lafi highlighted the significance of bolstering the partnership with Russia to aid the political process spearheaded by the Council. This collaboration aims to unify Libyan institutions and achieve national reconciliation. Discussions also covered regional and international issues of mutual interest, exploring ways to enhance Libya-Russia relations through the activation of the Joint High Committee.
The talks further included expanding cooperation in military and security sectors to upgrade the Libyan army’s capabilities with modern professional standards. The Russian delegation expressed its commitment to coordinating with the Presidential Council to support political and security stability in Libya. Moscow also showed interest in cooperating on military training, counterterrorism, border security, and exploring economic and investment opportunities in key sectors.
In attendance at the meeting were the Chief of Staff of the Libyan Army and his deputy, along with the Russian Ambassador to Libya and the military attach© at the embassy.
