Al-Baour and Ould Merzoug Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Tripoli: The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Taher Al-Baour, met today with the Mauritanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, during an official visit to Libya. The discussions focused on enhancing coordination and consultation between the two countries in regional and international forums and exploring opportunities for political and economic cooperation. According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting aimed at fostering mutual interests and strengthening the fraternal relations between Libya and Mauritania. The dialogue included plans for convening the Libyan-Mauritanian Joint Higher Committee and revisiting agreements previously signed by the two nations to reactivate them. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that this diplomatic engagement is part of ongoing efforts to elevate the partnership between Libya and Mauritania, contributing to development, stability, and integration in the region. The meeting was attended by Najib Ashour, Director of the Department of Arab Affairs, and Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, a former Mauritanian Foreign Minister and candidate for the post of Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
