Tripoli: Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, affirmed his support for initiatives aimed at achieving a comprehensive political settlement, emphasizing his engagement with efforts focused on national interest. He expressed gratitude and welcomed the United Nations Support Mission in Libya's (UNSMIL) efforts to end division and facilitate simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections promptly.
According to Libyan News Agency, Saleh stated that the House of Representatives would take appropriate actions when initiatives are presented, ensuring they serve public interest and stabilize the state and its institutions. He expressed readiness to engage positively with efforts to end political and institutional division, overcome the current crisis, and reach agreements for unified authority and state institutions. This, he believes, would create conditions conducive to advancing the electoral process, ending transitional phases, and allowing Libyans to choose their representatives through free and fair elections.
The Speaker affirmed his commitment to any consensus aimed at ending division and achieving stability, provided they align with the Constitutional Declaration, applicable legislation, and the Political Agreement. He emphasized that this approach ensures a sound political process, preserves state unity, and prioritizes Libya's higher national interest.
