African Lion 2024 Sets-Up Field Medical-Surgical Hospital in Tata

Akka Municipality (Tata Province) – As part of the parallel humanitarian activities of the combined Moroccan-American exercise “African Lion 2024”, which is being held in accordance with the High Instructions of His Majesty the King, Supreme Commander and Chief of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), a field medical-surgical hospital has been set-up in the municipality of Akka, in the province of Tata.

Mobilizing medical teams made up of doctors and nurses from FAR and the US Army, this multidisciplinary health structure offers medical-surgical and social services for the local population.

In a statement to MAP, Dr Colonel Khalid Fattouh, head doctor of this field medical-surgical hospital, said this hospital, operational since May 16, provides medical and surgical services covering several specialties, including cardiology, ENT, pediatrics, internal medicine, gynecology, radiology, odontology and ophthalmology.

It has provided, until May 25, nearly 28,000 medical services for 7,600 patients,
he underlined, adding that 122 surgeries have been performed and 17 persons have been vaccinated against Measles, while pairs of glasses have been granted to 1,213 people and medicines to 5,600 people.

Around 7,000 members of the armed forces from around twenty countries in addition to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) are taking part alongside the FAR and the US Army, in the combined Moroccan-American exercise ‘African Lion 2024’ (May 20-31).

Contributing to strengthening operational, technical and procedural interoperability between the participating armies, the ‘African Lion 2024’ exercise, the largest exercise in Africa, is an annual event where military executives come together to exchange procedures and experiences, particularly in terms of training and combined joint training.

This twentieth edition testifies to the sustainability which characterizes cooperation between the FAR and the US Army, reflecting the historical and solid links which between the two countries.
