Tripoli: The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Taher Al-Baour, highlighted the need to enhance consular services provided to Libyan communities overseas and to safeguard their interests. This statement was made during his address at the first Diplomacy Conference organized by the Ministry, attended by ambassadors, heads of Libyan missions abroad, department directors, office heads, and a group of academics, researchers, and experts.
According to Libyan News Agency, Al-Baour reiterated Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dabaiba’s points on enhancing diplomatic performance and strengthening Libya’s regional and international presence. He emphasized the significance of developing the skills of diplomatic corps personnel, as well as the necessity for close coordination between Libyan missions and state institutions, particularly the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to protect Libya’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The conference’s second day included presentations, research papers, and panel discussions that addressed political and diplomatic issues in Libya, as well as local, regional, and international challenges. Topics included the role of diplomacy in national stability, economic diplomacy’s role in current challenges, and the suitability of Libyan diplomacy’s legal frameworks.
Additionally, academics explored irregular migration through Libya, media’s role in shaping foreign policy, foreign policy in a multipolar world, and maritime borders and international law. On the conference’s sidelines, Al-Baour met with Libyan ambassadors and heads of missions to discuss improving political and diplomatic performance and formulating a shared national foreign policy vision. The attendees reviewed the conditions of Libyan embassies and missions, discussing challenges and suggestions for improvement.
