Baghdad: Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, has called on all parties in Libya to prioritize national interests and work towards comprehensive reconciliation. He emphasized the importance of unity to ensure Libya’s secure and stable future.
According to Libyan News Agency, Aboul Gheit expressed the League’s deep concern over the ongoing developments in Libya, particularly the recent escalation in Tripoli and the western region. Speaking at the opening session of the 34th Arab Summit in Baghdad, he highlighted the continuing division as a significant threat to Libya’s unity.
Aboul Gheit urged Libyan parties to set aside narrow interests in favor of national unity, marking the current phase as critical for achieving reconciliation. He reassured that the Arab League is committed to supporting a Libyan-led political process, with the unity of Libya’s territory and national institutions as a top priority.
