Tripoli: UNSMIL has expressed its approval of the High National Elections Commission’s (HNEC) announcement of the preliminary results for the municipal elections in Libya. The Mission extended its congratulations to the Libyan people and all stakeholders, including the media and observers, for their active participation and significant contribution to maintaining a peaceful and transparent electoral process.
According to Libyan News Agency, UNSMIL also praised HNEC for successfully conducting the municipal council elections and acknowledged the role of state security institutions in ensuring a secure and peaceful environment for voters to participate in the elections. As the phase for appeals in the electoral process commenced on Monday, UNSMIL urged keeping the environment peaceful and stressed that any grievances from candidates, lists, and agents should be addressed through legal mechanisms, respecting procedural rules and democratic principles.

The United Nations in Libya reaffirmed its readiness to support political and electoral processes led and owned by Libyans to achieve legitimacy, long-term stability, and meaningful progress for the nation.
