Tripoli: The unity government's foreign ministry has firmly rejected Colombia's recent decision to acknowledge Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

According to Libyan News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity expressed its strong condemnation of the move, viewing it as a violation of international law. The ministry referenced Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981, which declared the invalidity of Israel's imposition of its laws and jurisdiction over the occupied Syrian Golan, and called for Israel to rescind measures that aim to alter the area's legal and demographic status.

In their statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that such decisions are likely to intensify the situation, augment regional tensions, and threaten the prospects for peace. They reiterated their steadfast support for the Syrian Arab Republic in maintaining its sovereignty and territorial integrity, while rejecting any unilateral actions that attempt to change the Golan Heights' legal status.
