United Nations: Between 10,000 and 20,000 fled from Sudan to Chad following the escalation of violence

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reported today, Thursday, that between 10,000 and 20,000 people have fled from the Darfur region, western Sudan, to neighboring Chad, in light of the escalation of violence in Sudan.

“In recent days, an estimated 10,000 to 20,000 people have fled conflict in Sudan’s Darfur region, seeking sanctuary in neighboring Chad, according to UNHCR teams at the border,” the statement said.

The statement added that according to the reports of the UNHCR teams present at the borders of the two countries, the majority of Sudanese arrivals to Chad are women and children, adding that the UNHCR is working closely with the Government of Chad and its partners to assess their needs and prepare a joint response, in addition to supporting the registration of new arrivals in the coming days.
