Tripoli, Under the patronage of the Vice-President of the Presidential Council, Musa Al-Koni, the Ministries of Agriculture and Local Government signed in Tripoli on Sunday, a memorandum of understanding with the Mediterranean Institute of Agricultural Sciences in Italy, the first of its kind within the framework of a broader short and long-term partnership. In order to support spatial development projects, to enhance food security of Libya.

The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Ramadan Boujnah, the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Puccini, the Director of the Italian Institute, the Undersecretaries of the Ministries of Agriculture and Local Government, and a number of relevant departments of the two ministries.

Prior to the signing ceremony, the Vice-President of the Presidential Council reviewed opportunities for promoting spatial development projects in southern Libya, and ways to activate joint treaties. Mr. Al-Koni stressed the need to support the economic empowerment of Libyan youth, provide appropriate alternatives for their involvement in development projects, and exercise their potential away from weapons.

On his part, the Italian ambassador praised cooperation of the Libyan authorities, especially the Presidential Council, in directing Italian cooperation to serve the Libyan needs and the interests of the Libyan people, saying his country was ready to implement the long-term partnership, part of which the signing of the agreement.

Ambassador Puccini pledged to provide scholarships and training for Libyan youth, in the fields of agriculture and development, within the framework of partnership and cooperation between the two countries.
