Tripoli: The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hannah Tetteh, convened a meeting on Tuesday with dignitaries and communication committees from Libya’s western region. The gathering, held in the presence of her Deputy for Political Affairs, Stephanie Khoury, alongside several UN mission members, focused on advancing local dialogue and promoting political and security stability across the country.
According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting included representatives from Tripoli, Souq al-Juma, Tajoura, Zawiya, Misrata, Warshafana, Zintan, and the Western Mountains. This initiative is part of the UN’s ongoing commitment to support the Presidential Council’s efforts to reach a peaceful settlement in Libya.
During the meeting, Tetteh voiced her concerns about the security situation in Tripoli, emphasizing the shared commitment among attendees to avoid escalation and enhance dialogue. She highlighted the collective determination to support a negotiated settlement that ensures peace and prevents further suffering for Libyans.
The UN envoy underscored the importance of prioritizing the interests of the Libyan people, suggesting that such focus could lead to positive outcomes that bolster stability and prevent further conflict. She also expressed her eagerness to continue collaborating with the western region’s leaders and state institutions in the forthcoming phase.
