Tripoli: UN Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Political Affairs Stephanie Koury engaged in a discussion with a delegation from the Libyan Organization for Intellectuals. The meeting, led by Dr. Ahmed Abdalla Al-Khalifa, chairman of the organization’s General Assembly, focused on the significance of political dialogue among Libyan factions.
According to Libyan News Agency, the delegation acknowledged the completion of the Advisory Committee’s work and emphasized the necessity of political dialogue to unite various Libyan groups. The discussions highlighted several challenges, such as financial issues, weapon proliferation, political divisions, and their effects on the Libyan population, especially the youth and women in the southern regions.
Koury expressed the importance of unified and strengthened institutions, advocating for a sustainable economy and the conduction of national elections. She thanked the delegation for their support of UNSMIL’s efforts and stressed the need for bui
lding consensus and public support to achieve these goals.
