UK Ambassador Visits Shrine of Martyr Omar Al-Mukhtar in Benghazi

Benghazi: UK Ambassador to Libya, Martin Reynolds, along with his delegation, visited the shrine of Omar Al-Mukhtar, famously known as the "Lion of the Desert," during his visit to Benghazi to meet with local officials.

According to Libyan News Agency, Issa Abdul Qayyum, the Deputy Director of Al-Salam Center, explained that the Ambassador laid a wreath at the shrine. He received an explanation of the history of Libyan resistance against the Italian occupation, the involvement of the Senussi army with the Allies during World War II, and the Battle of Dignity led by the Libyan National Army against terrorism in Benghazi.

The Ambassador was also briefed on historical photographs and documents, highlighting a file on fascist concentration camps and testimonies of Libyans' participation in World War II. He was shown historical artifacts and presented with several publications from the Center. Ambassador Reynolds was awarded the "Al-Mukhtar" medal and wrote a message in the guestbook, describing the Center as "an exceptional museum for an exceptional man."
