Transport Minister Lauds Performance of EGMPT

Transport Minister Kamel el-Wazir has spoken highly of the performance of the Egyptian Group for Multipurpose Terminals (EGMPT) over the past period, especially where handling huge vessels is concerned. For the first time, Alexandria Port has received giant vessels, not to mention general cargo ships, Wazir said during the general assembly of EGMPT earlier on Wednesday 9/10/2024. He added that Alexandria Port will serve as a future transit terminal. Addressing the general assembly, EGMPT board chairman Abdel Qader Darwish reviewed a report on the company's financial performance and its IT system, as well as the recruitment process. The EGMPT board report was endorsed and the financial statements were approved during the meeting. The minister talked about performance and operation levels at the "Long Live Egypt" station, noting that more than 500 ships have docked at the platforms since pilot operation in February 2023. This indicates that Alexandria Port is on its way of becoming a transit terminal in t he future, he said, pointing out that transit made up about 40% of the total handling process. The goal is to turn it into a central hub for transit trade in the Middle East, Wazir said. He added that the "Long Live Egypt" station came fourth in terms of productivity and second in safety among terminals managed by CMA CGM, a French shipping and logistics company.
