The President Stresses The Importance Of Coordination And Cooperation With Upstream Countries And The Need To Improve Water Management

The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received, today, Monday, at the Baghdad Palace, Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiab Abdullah.

A presidential statement stated that: “During the meeting, the water situation was discussed and the effects resulting from water scarcity in the country were discussed, where the president explained the importance of coordination and cooperation with upstream countries to increase water releases, and to continue efforts at the regional level to preserve Iraq’s fair and sufficient share of water.”

The President of the Republic also stressed the importance of focusing on the water situation and developing it through continuous follow-up to the construction of dams to store water and address the problems of drought, desertification, low levels of groundwater, and exceeding water quotas by establishing unlicensed fish lakes, stressing the need to improve water management and prevent waste and wasteful use for Agricultural or direct use and launch media awareness campaigns in this regard.

For his part, the minister affirmed the ministry’s continuation of its unremitting efforts with the relevant neighboring countries to reach fair and equitable results in water policies that guarantee rights, take into account and preserve life and the environment, and secure common interests for all.
