The President of the Republic stresses the necessity of ensuring fair water shares for Iraq from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers

The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, stressed the necessity of ensuring fair water shares for Iraq from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

The Presidency of the Republic stated in: ‘The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad, the Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiab Abdullah, and during the meeting, developments in the water wealth file and ways to preserve and benefit from it were discussed.’

According to the statement, the President of the Republic stressed the need to protect water bodies of lakes and marshes, maintain existing dams, create new ones with international specifications, and adopt modern irrigation methods to preserve water resources.

He stressed “the necessity of ensuring fair water shares for Iraq from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and coordinating with neighboring countries in this regard to reach solutions that guarantee justice in water shares for all.”

The President of the Republic expressed his readiness to
support the plans of the Ministry of Water Resources to improve the management of water resources in the country

For his part, the Minister of Water Resources appreciated the President of the Republic’s interest in the water issue and his directives in this field, stressing ‘the Ministry’s keenness to implement them,’ pointing to ‘the plans drawn up to address water waste and confront the negative effects of climate change.
