The Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadhel, revealed a government approach to reduce dependence on gas.
The Ministry said in a statement, "The Minister of Electricity chaired an important meeting with the delegation of the Emirati Masdar Company, which is to implement a number of solar power plant projects in Maysan, Dhi Qar, Anbar and Kirkuk."
The Minister explained, according to the statement, that there is a "governmental trend to diversify energy sources, in addition to reducing dependence on gas and fossil fuels, and a commitment from it and the Ministry to contribute to addressing environmental pollution and global warming," noting "the importance of achieving long partnerships with the UAE side, whether governmental or investment with the private sector and discreet companies, and that our steps, even if they came late, are determined and serious to implement them, especially with (Masdar Company), which has great business regionally and globally.”
The Minister reviewed the possibility of defining a starting point for renewable energy projects, which have become an important and necessary part, and after what we have achieved from the success of the actual steps by working with companies (Total, Power Jina, and Al-Bilal Group) and their receipt of the allocated lands, as we invested part of our powers as a Ministry and part of the powers of the Energy Council, to overcome the obstacles of these projects and even accelerate them through strategic decisions.
A joint meeting was held between the Electricity, the National Investment Authority and the company to review the size of the obligations and determinants.
