The Arab League Council holds an emergency meeting at the invitation of Iraq to discuss humanitarian needs in Lebanon

The Arab League Council held an emergency meeting at the invitation of the Republic of Iraq, and with the support of the Arab member states of the League, to discuss ways to provide urgent humanitarian aid to the Lebanese Republic against the backdrop of the ongoing aggression by the Israeli entity, and to support the displaced and refugees.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement today: “The Iraqi delegation was headed by Ambassador Qahtan Taha Khalaf Al-Janabi, Iraq’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League.

In his speech, the Ambassador affirmed Iraq’s full commitment to supporting the Lebanese people in these difficult circumstances, stressing the need for Arab solidarity to confront the humanitarian challenges facing Lebanon, calling on the international community to take urgent steps to stop the military escalation and provide the necessary assistance.

The Ambassador indicated that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani directed the opening of an air bridge to deliver urgent aid to
Lebanon, as Iraq sent more than 40 tons of aid, including medical and food supplies. An Iraqi medical team consisting of 22 doctors was also sent to provide medical support. In addition, two planes loaded with aid provided by the holy shrines of Imam Hussein and Al-Abbas arrived.

The Ambassador affirmed Iraq’s readiness to provide more support, whether by sending additional medical teams or providing other humanitarian aid, pointing to the importance of joint Arab action within the framework of the League to ensure the provision of the required support and enhance international efforts to stop the aggression.

The participants in the meeting stressed the importance of intensifying Arab and international efforts To provide urgent humanitarian aid to Lebanon, stressing the need for unity and solidarity in facing the challenges facing the region.
