Tripoli: Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General Hanna Tetteh engaged in discussions with a delegation from the city of Surman regarding the current situation in the city, which has been recently affected by fighting.
According to Libyan News Agency, the delegation comprised First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Fawzi Noueiri; Mayor of Surman, Mohsen Abu Sneina; and Head of the Council of Elders and Notables of Surman, Fathi al Moshalfah. The visiting officials highlighted the challenges facing the municipality, including smuggling activities, security-related tensions, and irregular migration. These issues have been increasing pressure on local authorities and affecting the provision of services.
Tetteh expressed her complete support for initiatives aimed at restoring stability in the region. She emphasized the importance of protecting civilians and upholding human rights, stressing the pivotal role of state institutions in fostering conditions conducive to lasting peace and security in the city.
The meeting also served as a platform to discuss the latest political developments in Libya and the significance of advancing the political process.
