Tripoli: The High Council of State has issued a strong condemnation of the recent attack by Israeli occupation forces on the “Sumood Flotilla,” which was en route to the Gaza Strip carrying humanitarian aid. The flotilla included a Libyan vessel named Omar al-Mukhtar.

According to Libyan News Agency, the Council’s statement highlighted that targeting the Libyan ship represents a breach of Libya’s sovereignty and an affront to its people’s dignity. The attack was labeled as a crime against humanity and a blatant violation of international laws designed to protect civilians and support humanitarian efforts.

The Council urged the international community, particularly the United Nations and the Security Council, to take immediate action to secure the release of all detainees and ensure that aid reaches those in need in the Gaza Strip without obstruction.

Additionally, the Council appealed to international human rights organizations, including the Red Cross and the Red Crescent, to document these violations and submit them to relevant international judicial bodies like the International Criminal Court, viewing these actions as potential war crimes.

The High Council of State reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their resilience against occupation. It warned that hindrances to food and medicine delivery are tantamount to collective punishment, which is prohibited under international law.

In its conclusion, the Council urged Arab and Islamic nations, along with the wider international community, to take swift and decisive measures to protect civilians and lift the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.
