Tripoli: The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, has revealed a roadmap aimed at reintegrating Libyans into the political process, with an announcement scheduled for August 21. This initiative is designed to facilitate free and inclusive presidential and legislative elections in the country.
According to Libyan News Agency, Tetteh made these remarks during a virtual Zoom meeting with young Libyan women last Wednesday, emphasizing the crucial role of community participation and democratic representation. She highlighted the significance of empowering Libyan women within this framework.
Tetteh stated, “Through elections, we instill confidence and empower the elected person to act on our behalf, in accordance with laws and regulations.” Her comments underline the importance of a clear electoral path for Libya and the active partnership of Libyan women in this political process.
She further added, “All women must be able to fulfill their role and contribute to making a positive difference in their country.” This initiative aligns with UNSMIL’s ongoing support for Libya’s political process and its efforts to foster an environment conducive to democratic elections that reflect the aspirations of the Libyan people, ultimately restoring sovereignty to their collective will.
