Salam Highlights State Sovereignty, Development, and Inclusive Governance in High-Level Meetings

Beirut: Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, on Tuesday welcomed MP Walid Al-Baarini at the Grand Serail, accompanied by a large delegation from Akkar, including mayors, local officials, and dignitaries. PM Salam emphasized the government’s commitment to implementing its ministerial statement and extending state sovereignty across all Lebanese territory, noting that Akkar has long suffered from neglect.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, PM Salam underlined the strategic importance of the Qlayaat Airport project, which he placed on the path toward implementation during his recent visit, describing it as the largest development initiative in Akkar since President Chehab’s time. MP Baarini expressed full support for the government’s decisions, especially the exclusive control of arms by the state, and called for parallel development and administrative action to alleviate Akkar’s hardships. He noted delays in the airport project and pledged to work with the Prime Minister to overcome them.

PM Salam also met with the Administrative Council of the Makassed Islamic Philanthropic Association in Saida, headed by Fayez Al-Bizri, to discuss educational and national affairs. The delegation reaffirmed Makassed’s alignment with state institutions and support for the government’s reform path.

In separate meetings, PM Salam received Middle East Airlines Chairman Mohammad El-Hout, who briefed him on Beirut Airport’s strong summer passenger traffic, and MP Michel Doueihy, with whom he discussed pressing development needs in North Lebanon.
