Benghazi: The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee of the House of Representatives, Youssef Al-Aqouri, met with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Libya, Haider Rashid Aganin, at the Council’s office headquarters in Benghazi. The meeting focused on international and regional developments, particularly concerning Syria and Palestine, as well as recent political progress in Libya, the election process, and outcomes of the Cairo meeting between the House of Representatives and the State Council.
According to Libyan News Agency, Abdullah Blihaq, the spokesman for the House of Representatives, stated that discussions also covered the potential opening of the Russian Cultural House and the Russian Consulate in Benghazi. Al-Aqouri emphasized the importance of strengthening historical ties between Libya and Russia, expressing a desire for enhanced cooperation across various sectors and highlighting Russia’s potential role in supporting Libya’s stability.
Ambassador Haider Aganin expressed his enthusiasm for visiting the House of Representatives and reiterated Russia’s commitment to developing relations with Libya. He highlighted the cooperation between the Libyan House of Representatives and the Russian Duma, underscoring the mutual interests of both nations. The ambassador affirmed Russia’s support for elections in Libya, emphasizing that elections are crucial for enabling the Libyan people to choose their representatives. He also mentioned ongoing efforts to establish a Russian consulate in Benghazi, aiming to bolster bilateral relations and joint cooperation.
