Tripoli: The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) has announced the reactivation of the fifth gas turbine unit at the South Tripoli power plant, marking its gradual reconnection to the national grid. This development is part of ongoing efforts to bolster the country's power generation capabilities.

According to Libyan News Agency, the reactivation comes after a comprehensive process involving major mechanical and electrical overhauls, alongside all necessary operational tests. These critical operations, which spanned over forty days, were executed with the expertise of the plant's technicians and engineers, in collaboration with the American company GE. This partnership aims to enhance the plant's overall production capacity.

GECOL has confirmed that the restarting of this gas unit is integral to its broader strategy. This strategy focuses on maintaining operational performance and extending the lifespan of its facilities to adequately meet the increasing demand for electricity in Libya.
