Political Stability in Libya Tied to Trust in Resource Management, Says UN Representative

Tripoli: The UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, emphasized the connection between political stability and citizens' trust in institutions that manage public resources with transparency and accountability. Tetteh's remarks were made during her participation in the opening of the 2026 Arab Conference on Savings and Financial Literacy in Tripoli. The conference, hosted by the Central Bank of Libya, gathered policymakers, financial institutions, development partners, and experts from North Africa and the Middle East. According to Libyan News Agency, Tetteh highlighted the importance of economic stability in fostering political stability in Libya. She noted that public trust in credible institutions managing resources transparently and accountably is crucial. Tetteh stressed the need for an economy that provides broader access to financial services and opportunities for all Libyans, which is vital in building this trust. Tetteh further explained that expanding access to financ ial services, along with promoting financial literacy and digital financial services, would enable more Libyans to participate in the formal economy. This would allow them to make informed financial decisions and tap into Libya's economic potential. Tetteh reiterated the United Nations' commitment to supporting Libyan institutions. She emphasized the goal of building a more transparent, inclusive, and resilient economy that delivers tangible benefits for all Libyans.
