The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee revealed that there are more than 450 border villages in northern Iraq whose residents were displaced by Turkish forces under the pretext of the presence of banned Kurdistan Workers’ Party elements. Calling on the government to work in parallel to expel all American, Turkish and foreign forces.
Committee member MP Waad Al-Qaddo stated in a statement to the Iraqi National News Agency / NINA / that “the number of Turkish forces inside Iraqi territory exceeded 5,000 army personnel, and there are more than 80 camps or stations, more than 14 landing strips for Turkish aircraft, and more than one Turkish intelligence center in northern Iraq, in addition to fixed camps that include heavy equipment and weapons that can target any site inside Iraq, and are located 28 kilometers from the center of Nineveh, and at a distance of 185 kilometers inside Iraqi territory.”
The committee member confirmed that there is a parliamentary rejection of the memoranda of understanding
that attempt to undermine Iraqi sovereignty and pave the way for violations by Turkish forces and give legal cover for the aerial bombardment of border villages in northern Iraq,’ noting that ‘the Turkish violations on Iraqi territory have turned into an explicit Turkish occupation of those areas.’
