OPEC praises Libya’s role in signing the 2016 agreement

Tripoli – The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries “OPEC”, that Libya has contributed to great efforts with the organization for many years and in very difficult times, with beginning of the announcement of the cooperation agreement between OPEC member states and non-OPEC countries in 2016, as well as during the outbreak of Covid 19 pandemic in the year 2020.

This came in a congratulatory letter sent by Secretary-General of the Organization, Haitham Al-Ghais to GNU-Minister of Oil and Gas Mohamed Aoun, on the occasion of 71st anniversary of Independence Day ,according to the SMS Page of the Ministry.

Al-Ghais praised the interventions of ,Aoun, who was the Libyan delegate to OPEC, and his continuous support during the historic negotiations, which resulted in the signing of cooperation agreement between OPEC and non-OPEC member states in 2016.

In November 2016, 23 oil exporting countries signed an agreement known as “OPEC Plus” with the aim of reducing oil production to improve oil prices in the markets.
