New Round Of Libyan Peace Talks To Start In Berlin On June 23.

Berlin, German Foreign Ministry confirmed on Tuesday that Berlin was going to host the a new round of Libyan peace talks on June 23, to be attended for the first time by representatives of the Government of National Unity.

‘Future steps need to ensure sustainable stability in the country will be discussed at the talks which focus the forthcoming national elections on Dec. 24, a statement by the German Foreign Ministry said.

German Foreign Minister and the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres have urged states and organizations taking part in Berlin talks to attend Berlin 2over Libya on June 23.

A spokeswoman for the German Foreign Ministry said Tuesday ‘the goal of the conference is to assess progress made thus far to pacify Libya since the Berlin 1 held on June 19, 2020.’

The conference will focus on sustainable stability in Libya, she said, adding concentration will be on elections on Dec. 24, and withdrawal of foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya as agreed upon in the ceasefire agreement as well as reunification of the Libyan security forces.
