Morocco's Royal Navy unit intercepted, on Thursday some 240 km (150 mi) south-west of Dakhla, a pirogue carrying 124 sub-Saharan would-be illegal migrants, including 12 women. The people rescued, who intended to reach the Canary Islands, were taken to the military port of Dkhila (south of Dakhla) and handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie for the usual administrative procedures after receiving the necessary treatment, according to a statement by the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces.
