Mnifi Stresses Alignment of UN Mission with Libyan Aspirations

Tripoli: President of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Al-Mnifi, underscored the necessity of aligning the United Nations mission’s roles with the aspirations of the Libyan people to bolster stability, invigorate the political process, and tackle economic and security challenges, thereby reinforcing the state’s sovereignty and independence in decision-making.

According to Libyan News Agency, this emphasis was articulated during Al-Mnifi’s meeting with the UN Strategic Review Team at the Council’s headquarters in Tripoli. The team included notable figures such as Assistant Secretary-General Daniela Kroslak, Anthony Cardon de Lichtbur from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Christina Heumann from the Development Coordination Office, Senior Political Officer Ali Ahmed, and Political Affairs Officer Mohamed Othman.

The discussions centered on the team’s evaluation role in reviewing the performance of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). This review aims to enhance the mission’s effectiveness and tailor its tasks to align with the current priorities and needs of Libya.

Team members expressed their commitment to incorporating national perspectives into their comprehensive evaluation process. They stated that the review’s findings would be submitted to the UN Secretary-General.
