Misrata: The General Company for Cleaning Services in Misrata has initiated extensive campaigns to open and clean valleys, dams, and waterways in the municipalities of Tarhuna, Al-Khums, and Qasr Al-Akhyar. This campaign is part of a proactive plan aimed at preparing for winter and reducing the risk of torrents and floods. The Ministry of Local Government explained, in a post on its official page, that these actions are part of the implementation of preventative measures and necessary precautionary measures to address the negative effects of rainfall that may threaten the safety of citizens and property.

According to Libyan News Agency, this campaign includes removing dirt and debris that obstruct water flow in valleys and drainage channels, in addition to maintaining culverts and water channels, in coordination with security agencies and public service companies in the targeted municipalities.

The Ministry confirmed that these steps come in response to repeated warnings issued by the National Center of Met
eorology and the competent civil protection authorities, indicating that blocked waterways and the accumulation of waste pose a direct threat to cities and residential areas, as they increase the likelihood of flooding roads and buildings and causing material and human damage.

Through these measures, local authorities seek to protect lives and property and limit environmental damage resulting from stagnant and polluted water, especially in light of the recurring disasters resulting from heavy rainfall in recent years.

Specialized field teams have begun implementing these actions, supported by heavy equipment and machinery, as part of an emergency plan. The government established it to secure vulnerable areas and form rapid response teams to respond to any emergency.
