Ministry of Health reveals the number of heart surgeries performed in medical centers in Libya.

The Head of the Documentary Credits Department at the Ministry of Health confirmed that the number of operations performed in medical centers in Libya reached 1,233, including heart surgery, catheterization, and open heart surgery for children.

This came during a meeting held by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health, Ramadan Abu Jannah, yesterday with the directors of the Administrative, Financial, and Legal Affairs Departments, the Internal Audit Office, the General Financial Controller’s Office, and the Head of the Documentary Credits Department to follow up on the implementation of contracts for performing heart and catheterization operations, which are being carried out, to implement them in medical centers through partnerships with the private sector within the framework of localizing therapeutic services inside.

The head of the Ministry’s Documentary Credits Department said that these operations cost 14.112.505 dinars, with an average price of 11.500 dinars per operation, all of which were
successful under the supervision of the centers’ administrations.

Abu Janah pointed to the increasing challenges facing medical centers with regard to managing costs in light of the commitment to improving the standards of medical services and the increasing cases of chronic diseases such as heart disease, which have witnessed an increase in the recent period.

Abu-Janah urged continuous coordination in order to speed up financial procedures so that medical centers can complete the implementation of surgical operations for patients awaiting scheduled operations on waiting lists.
