Tripoli- The Military College in Tripoli hosted a ceremony honoring military’s political prisoners.

The ceremony was attended by the Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army, Lieutenant-General Mohamed Al-Haddad, the Chairman of the Military Committee (5+5) for the Western Region, Major General Ahmed Abu Shahma, the Director of the Military Accounts Department, Brigadier General Salem Al-Taweel, the Head of the Prisoners Association, and a number of the Libyan Army’s chiefs of staff.

The ceremony included honoring a number of soldiers who were imprisoned in political cases by distributing cheques, in addition to honoring the Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant-General Muhammad Al-Haddad.

Al-Haddad said in his speech that we meet today to celebrate a number of the sons of this institution who sacrificed their lives to save our dear homeland when the compass of the ruling regime deviated from the interest of the country because they belong to a state institution and not to a ruling regime, whatever the form of this regime.

Today, as we celebrate the 11th anniversary of the February 17 Revolution, we are achieving one of its goals, which is qaulity and restoring rights, by implementing the Supreme Leader’s decision regarding the payment of the salaries of political prisoners from the military and the families of the deceased among them, whose freedoms were reserved in private prisons and detention centers, to pay their salaries that have been suspended for years. This is in expression of our appreciation for the sacrifices they made to save the country very early on from a tyrannical regime.

The Chief of the General Staff clarified that the army is a national and noble institution with its goals and principles, whose main mission is to defend the homeland, preserve public freedoms, protect the constitution, enhance national unity, support internal stability, preserve society’s values, wealth, unity of its social fabric, and protect its borders.
