Tripoli- Member of the Presidential Council, “Abdullah Al-Lafi” revealed the details of the meeting he had with the Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations Stephanie Williams in Libya, during which they discussed the latest developments in the political process in Libya.

“During the meeting, we stressed the need for everyone to work to support stability and not undermine the political and security gains that have been achieved during the past periods,” Al-Lafi said in his blog post.

The member of the Presidency Council added, “All political differences must be resolved within a peaceful framework, away from the escalation that might harm the consensus that has been achieved and obstruct the holding of elections.”

He also indicated that he welcomed, during the meeting, the proposal of the Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations to call on the two chambers to form a joint committee to lay down the constitutional basis in a consensual manner, opening the way towards preparing the country to fulfill the demand of more than two and a half million Libyan people to hold elections according to a specific and short timetable.

At the conclusion of his post, Al-Lafi directed the two councils to “deal with this proposal with sufficient seriousness and the responsibility entrusted to them in order to preserve the unity and safety of the homeland, stressing that it will not be allowed to be dragged into chaos and fighting.”
