Mechanism Agreed for Appointment of Libyan Electoral Commission Head

Tripoli: Participants in the mini-meeting on the first two steps of the UN roadmap have agreed on a mechanism for appointing the head of the High National Elections Commission. The agreement was reached on Wednesday during discussions held in Tunis.

According to Libyan News Agency, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) facilitated the seventh meeting of the mini-meeting on the initial steps of the UN roadmap. The meeting was chaired by Hanna Tetteh, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General. Participants reached a consensus on how to appoint the head of the High National Elections Commission, marking a step forward in the electoral process.

UNSMIL further mentioned that participants continued discussions on the remaining items in the draft final agreement. They have agreed to resume these consultations next week in Tunis.
