Tripoli, Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) kicked off via Zoom on Wednesday for two days to discuss the constitutional basis for parliamentary and presidential elections to be held on 24 December 2021, as agreed by the LPDF Legal Committee during its meeting in Tunis from 7- 9 April 2021 and during subsequent consultations facilitated by UNSMIL. The meeting is attended by Jan Kupis Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya.
Members submitted their notes and proposals on the proposed basis, including the oath vocabulary and terms of candidacy for the presidency, government, financial allowance and the issue of married to foreigner assuming sovereign posts.
UNSMIL sources said once a consensus is made by members of the Forum on the Constitutional Basis it would be referred to the House of Representatives for endorsement.
