The Libyan Coast Guard received two “Corea” naval units from the Italian Defense Industries Agency in the “Messina Military” arsenal as part of the project to support the integrated management of borders and migration in Libya, Europe.

The Italian News Agency Nova quoted the Defense Industries Agency as saying in a statement that the two units are undergoing preventive rehabilitation and restoration operations by the agency’s workers as part of the technical agreement stipulated between the Ministry of Interior – Public Security Department – and the Defense Industries Agency.

The handover ceremony of the units, which preceded the signing of the official report, took place in the presence of representatives of the European Commission’s Directorate General for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations (Dg Near), the Central Directorate for Migration and Border Police, the Libyan Technical Commission, the Defense Industries Agency, and the Italian Financial Police.

The patrol boats handed over to the Libyan authorities as part of the European project “Sembil” are set to be at the core of anti-trafficking and border control activities, allowing the Libyan Coast Guard to support European operations to secure the Mediterranean.
