Libya Urges International Action for a Nuclear-Free Middle East

New york: Libya has called on the international community to work towards achieving a nuclear-weapon-free Middle East and to ensure that all related facilities are subject to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards system. This appeal was made during a speech by Ambassador Essam Omran Bin Zeitoun, a representative of Libya’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, at the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly on Disarmament and International Security during its 80th session held in New York.

According to Libyan News Agency, in his address, Bin Zeitoun highlighted Libya’s unwavering stance against nuclear weapons programs and weapons of mass destruction. The statement, published by the Permanent Mission of Libya to the United Nations on its website, emphasized Libya’s commitment to the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter and its ongoing support for initiatives aimed at establishing international peace and security. Bin Zeitoun underscored that genuine security can only be realized through just peace and comprehensive disarmament.
