TRIPOLI: The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Libya, Al-Taher Al-Baour, has announced the lifting of restrictions on 1,800 bank accounts in the Bank of Valletta, a significant move towards recovering funds for Libyan citizens and public companies abroad. This development was revealed during a meeting with the Maltese Ambassador to Libya, attended by key members of the Committee for Lifting Restrictions on the Funds and Property of Libyan Citizens and Public Companies Abroad.
According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting was conducted to assess the progress of the committee, which was established under Decision No. (26) of 2024 by the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity. The discussions also focused on the mechanisms for recovering funds deposited in the Santa Bank, highlighting the imminent commencement of this process.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has committed to publishing advertisements to invite affected citizens to submit necessary documentation in collaboration with the Maltese
Embassy in Libya. This initiative aims to streamline procedures and expedite the fund recovery process for Libyan citizens.
