New York: Libya has concluded its presidency of the fourth session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other Weapons of Mass Destruction. The event marked an important milestone in international efforts to promote regional disarmament and security.
According to Libyan News Agency, Libya’s Permanent Mission to the UN announced that Ambassador Taher El-Sonni, the Libyan Representative, officially handed over the presidency to Mauritania. The session was attended by notable figures including the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Philemon Yang, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, and the Under-Secretary-General for Disarmament Affairs, Izumi Nakamitsu.
The mission highlighted the various initiatives undertaken during Libya’s presidency, despite the challenges faced by the Middle East region over the past year. These initiatives included the introduction of new procedural methods for the Conference’s working groups. T
