Tripoli: Libya briefed the European Union on the new Libyan initiative to directly support voluntary returns, in coordination with the embassies of migrants’ countries of origin, to ensure the file is handled in a practical and effective manner. This initiative aims to streamline the process of voluntary repatriation of migrants, ensuring their safe and humane return to their home countries.
According to Libyan News Agency, the visit emphasized the importance of ensuring that all returns are safe and voluntary, and that they are conducted in accordance with internationally recognized humanitarian standards. It also emphasized the importance of closely monitoring the implementation of this process, in cooperation with international partners, to enhance efforts to voluntarily return migrants across Libya.
This came during a field visit conducted by the Head of the Border Guard Service and Head of the Technical Committee for Monitoring the File, Major General Mohammed Al-Marhani, accompanied by the EU Ambassador to Libya, Mr. Nicola Orlando, to the site designated as a reception center for registered migrants wishing to voluntarily return to their countries. The visit underscored the collaborative efforts between Libya and the European Union in addressing the complex issue of migration and ensuring that the process respects the rights and dignity of the migrants involved.
